We are delighted to be welcoming you to the first annual Whisky Report by VCL Vintners. The Whisky Report will look back at the year just gone by, and explore the market from a quantitative perspective. It will look at the numbers driving the whisky and broader financial markets and compare them to the past decade of stats.
We’ve gathered data on the past 12 months and also looking back to the past decade and beyond. The statistics paint a very powerful picture of the whisky market: Scotch Whisky is truly a global powerhouse.
The coronavirus pandemic has hit the whisky market, as it has numerous global markets and economies. However, the impact on the whisky cask market has to be taken as overall a positive one.
With fewer casks produced in the past 18months+, the balanced consideration of supply and demand will likely continue to drive positive price action for casks for decades to come. The Scotch Whisky industry is, for the most part (under ordinary circumstances), producing new-fill whisky towards the distilleries maximum capacities.
When global whisky demand returns back to its illustrious highs, there simply won’t be enough aged whisky to meet demand in 3 years time. This impact will keep rolling on past the 10 year, 18 year and 21 year age statements.
