Johnnie Walker moves with the times and targets new audiences with a sweet offering

Johnnie Walker is one of the most iconic and biggest selling Scotch whisky brands in the world.  Best known for its Black Label, the brand was founded by John Walker in 1820, and it has been under the Diageo umbrella since 1997.

What is Johnnie Walker Blonde?

Developed by master blender Emma Walker and master whisky maker George Harper, the new whisky has a lighter, more approachable flavor profile than its siblings.

The whisky is made using a blend of whiskies from Cameronbridge and fruitier whiskies from Cardhu. These are all then matured in first-fill American oak casks. The result is a light amber liquid with notes of vanilla, honey and citrus.

Why was Johnnie Walker Blonde created?

Johnnie Walker is famed for their marketing campaigns, all of which rely on knowing their audience.  But the team behind Johnnie Walker Blonde wanted to create a Scotch that would appeal to a wider audience. They specifically targeted people who don’t typically drink whisky, as well as those who are looking for an alternative to the standard Johnnie Walker Black Label.  It’s been well documented that there is a general shift in attitude towards whisky from the younger sect, but they are not looking for an aged dram.  Their preference is more fun, think long summer drinks and cocktails!

The end goal was to create a delicious, approachable and easy-to-drink whisky that everyone could enjoy. And we think they succeeded!

According to George Harper, “Johnnie Walker Blonde is one of the most versatile whiskies that our small team of expert whisky makers has ever made, which combines the depth of flavour that Scotch fans expect with sweeter, smoother flavours make it the perfect choice for people looking for something new”.

If you’re looking for a Scotch that’s a bit different from the norm, then Johnnie Walker Blonde is definitely worth trying. We think it’s a great choice for anyone who’s looking to explore the world of Scotch whisky, or for those who just want a delicious and easy-to-drink dram.
