INDEPENDENT pubs around Scotland have the chance to receive a free bottle of The GlenAllachie single malt as the distillery celebrates the reopening of the country’s hospitality venues.

The independently-owned distillery, which was purchased by a consortium headed by whisky veteran Billy Walker in 2017, will be distributing a free bottle of The GlenAllachie 12 year old to 116 different pubs – one for each day pubs were forced to stay closed during lockdown.

In order to claim their bottle licensees have to register at the distillery website (here) before Monday August 31.

Successful pubs will then have the chance to win a bottle of the distillery’s 15 year old expression by posting a picture of one of their customers enjoying a dram of The GlenAllachie 12 year old on social media, tagging GlenAllachie (@TheGlenAllachie on Facebook and Twitter and @theglenallachie_ on Instagram) and using the hashtag #GlenAllachie116.

GlenAllachie sales and marketing director, David Keir, said: “It’s been a long lockdown for many of our friends and partners in the independent pub sector across the UK. The final outlets in Scotland were only granted permission to open from July 15 – that’s 116 days of lockdown with not a penny of income.

“To help celebrate the fact that these pubs are now reopen, The GlenAllachie is going to donate 116 bottles of our 12 year old to the independent pub sector. Our friends may have reopened but it is with restricted capacity, reduced hours, extensive and expensive operating procedures in place and low footfall on the high street. It is a long road ahead for them and we want to do something to help.”
