Bowmore Is Set To Release A New Annual 30 Year Old Scotch Whisky

From the shores of Islay comes Bowmore’s latest concoction: its first annual 30-year-old release. This single malt was distilled in 1989 and aged for three decades in sherry hogshead and bourbon barrels. It is bottled at a cask strength of 45.3% and features what’s described as “Bowmore’s rich fruity and subtly smoky style.”

“By adding an ongoing 30-year-old Bowmore to the portfolio, we are able to showcase how vital time spent in cask shapes and influences our spirit, making it even more exceptional and characterful,” said David Turner, Bowmore Distillery Manager, in a prepared statement. “Each annual release will tell the rich stories of Bowmore, but importantly each will have their own unique style and character.

“As for this release, this is another perfect example of classic Bowmore but with boundless depth and intrigue reflecting the long standing interaction of spirit and wood.”

Just 2580 bottles of the new Bowmore 30 Year Old will be released in 2020 at select whisky specialist customers in early November. It is selected from just two casks each year and will price at £2,000, or a little over $2,600 USD, and is presented in a special wooden box.

Official tasting notes speak of a “burnished gold natural color” and “aromas of heather, bananas, peaches, pineapple, vanilla and butterscotch.  Whilst on the palate, tropical fruits and honey sweetness unite with subtle peat smoke and hints of eucalyptus, ensuring warming and lingering finish.”
