Laphroaig Distillery
About Laphroaig Distillery
The distillery, whose name means ‘broad hollow by the bay’ is still active and is now owned by Beam Suntory. The current capacity is 3.4 million litres of heavily peated spirit per annum made on seven stills, and the distillery is one of the few left in Scotland to still malt a proportion of its barley in house.
It is said that Prince Charles’s favourite single malt is the 15 year old Laphroaig and he granted a Royal Warrant to the distillery in 1994 – the only Scotch whisky distillery to receive this honour. Laphroaig is the only whisky to receive the Royal Warrant from the Prince of Wales himself.
