The Islands region is not actually recognised as a specific region by the Scottish Whisky Association however, they’re easily grouped together as such, seeing as they are all Islands surrounding mainland Scotland. Of the nearly 800 islands off the Scottish coastline, only a handful are inhibited, with each of them having at least one distillery. The well known brands based in the Islands region are Talisker, Jura, Tobermory and Highland Park with Talisker being the largest distillery in the whole of Scotland.
All whiskies from this region have peaty and salinity characteristics present in their malts however, their flavour profiles go much further and are very diverse when you compare Northern island distilleries to Southern island distilleries.
