About Ben Nevis Distillery
The distillery is still active and is now owned by Japanese company Nikka. The current capacity is 2,000,000 litres and its’ water source is the Allt a’Mhuilinn.
In 1878 a second distillery called Nevis was opened but Ben Nevis and Nevis Distillery became one in the early 20th century in order to keep up with demand. In 1955 the distillery was taken over by new owners and began utilising continuous distillation. They installed a Coffey still which allowed them to produce both grain and malt whisky at the same time, making them one of the first distilleries to do so.
